North Lebanon

North Lebanon needs more than one driving loop. Batroun and Tripoli offer contrasting coastal stays; Bsharri and the Qadisha area suit a separate mountain night.

Use the coast for harbour walks, food and seasonal swimming, then give the inland journey enough room for winding roads, trail access and a slower return.

Batroun suits a trip built around old lanes, the harbour and swimming venues. Choose accommodation according to whether an evening in the old town or direct beach access matters most, and confirm seasonal facilities.

Tripoli is a different visit: souks, religious architecture, the citadel and food traditions. Use a current local plan for the old city and check the official advice map for the districts you intend to visit. A few hours spent there should have a clear focus rather than being squeezed between two long drives.

Stay around Bsharri when the valley and cedar grove are your priorities. Cedars of God is a compact protected grove above the town; Qadisha is a much larger landscape of viewpoints, monasteries and walking routes below it.

A useful two-day mountain plan gives one day to Bsharri and the cedar grove and another to a chosen part of Qadisha. A short valley viewpoint visit can fit with the cedars, but a substantial hike needs its own time.

Baatara is a deep limestone sinkhole with natural bridges and a seasonal waterfall near Tannourine. Kfarhelda is a wooded river landscape inland from Batroun. Choose according to the walk and current water flow rather than expecting the same experience at both.

A photograph of strong spring flow does not indicate what you will see in late summer. Ask about access after rain, and allow for the slow approach roads as well as time at the viewpoint.

One possible structure is a coastal day in Batroun, a separate Tripoli visit and two days around Bsharri. The order depends on where you are staying, current travel advice and which mountain roads are suitable.

For only two days, choose coast or mountains as the main focus. Trying to visit Batroun, Tripoli, Qadisha, the cedars and a waterfall in one day leaves little time outside the car. An onward trip into Akkar needs additional planning and should not be treated as an automatic extension.

From Beirut or Jounieh, decide whether your first booked stop is Batroun, Tripoli or accommodation around Bsharri. Give your driver the exact address and planned stops, rather than asking for a tour of the north. The coastal cities and mountain sites need separate arrival and return arrangements.

For a coast-first route, spend the first night in your chosen coastal base and move to Bsharri on a separate travel day. For a walking-focused trip, go directly to the mountain accommodation and agree the following day's trailhead and collection point there. These are suggested route structures, not fixed driving times or guarantees of road access.

The coast and the highlands can feel like different seasons. Pack a warm layer for Bsharri even when the coast is hot; check heating in winter and shade or cooling for a summer coastal stay.

Snow and fog can close or complicate mountain roads. Do not assume a high pass into the Bekaa is open because a navigation app suggests it. Arrange a known road route and return transport before a trail walk.
